This record number of qualifiers worked together as a team to win the Medium-sized Club award and bring home their first team banner. "This achievement was our goal this year, we wanted to show our community and our province that Red Deer swimming is a big deal. We are currently the strongest team in Alberta outside of the big centers (Calgary and Edmonton)." Says head coach Mandi Smith of her swimmer's performances and receiving the Medium team award. "We are constantly the underdogs, we don't have the same facilities or the support available to us that some of the big clubs have daily access to and take for granted. Red Deer athletes have to work that much harder to be able to be competitive Provincially and Nationally. Catalina swimmers do not back down from challenges and are now recognized by their competitors as Provincial Champions. Our swimmers should be very proud of their accomplishments this season, I certainly am."
