                                                                    ___Coach Mandi achieves her NCCP Competition Coach Certification(posted 10Sept2010)

                                                                    _Coach Mandi achieved her Competition Coach certification.  Mandi is the first swim coach in Canada to certify as NCCP Competition Coach since the new certification requirements were implemented. Congratulations Mandi!

                                                                    _Catalina Swimmers break 112 club records in the 2010-2011 Season(posted 31Oct2011)

                                                                    _The Catalina Club Record Book was re-written in 2010-2011, with 112 new club records!  Congratulations to all record breakers!

                                                                    _Rebecca Smith Ties 32 year old Canadian Record and sets 6 Provincial Records at Age Group Short Course Provincials!

                                                                    _5 KM Pool Challenge Results Posted (posted 24Jan2010)

                                                                    _The results from the 5 km Pool Challenge swum back in November are now posted on the Swim Canada under Events. The results are also available here:
                                                                    10 year old Catalina swimmer Kristen Trepanier's time of 1 hr 18.36 minutes put her at the TOP of the Result Sheet for all Canadian 10 year olds who participated! Guys or Girls! There were also seven other Catalina Swimmer's whose times placed them up with the Top 10 recorded times in the country for their respective age groups: Emma MacDermaid, Emma Smith, Lainie Wareham, Alana Skocdopole, David Errington, Nicole Cossey and Bryan Iliscupidez. The complete Catalina contingent of swimmers came off looking very strong especially in the very competitive 13, 14 and 15 year old divisions. Way to go Swimmers!

                                                                    Congratulations to all Catalina Swimmers at the Provincial Championships! Catalina took the largest team in recent memory and finished its highest team placing in at least the last 10 years, taking home 23 individual medals.

                                                                    _Two more Catalina swimmers, Kristen Trepanier and Alana Skocdopole, achieved their Swim Alberta Youth Recognition Times this month!                                                       
                                                                    Kristen made her first ever Time Standard for TOP 5 in Alberta (10 & under) in the 100 Fly, and Alana achieved her Canadian TOP 25 Time Standard also in the 100 Fly!

                                                                    _Four Catalina Swimmers selected to Development Program

                                                                    _Catalina swimmers Nicole Cossey, Dallas Little, Kaitlyn Little and Ame Nieuwoudt were selected to represent swimming in this year's Athletic Enhancement Program which is offered by the Alberta Sport Development Central.
                                                                    The program is aimed at providing high quality, sports science support to the development of high performance athletes in Central Alberta.  ASDCC also provides a variety of services available to all Central Alberta athletes and clubs such as the Winning Edge Seminars series.  Information about this organization can be found at their website: http://www.asdccentral.ca

                                                                    _Coach Brittney Raab Selected as Red Deer College Athlete of the Week for Curling! (posted 01DEC2009)

                                                                    _Catalina Coach Brittney Raab was honoured for her skill on frozen water winning the Moxie's Red Deer College Female Athlete of the Week Award. Coach Brittney is the lead on the RDC Mixed Curling team and with their results from ACAC Fall Regional Draw on November 20-22, they are ranked as the Top team in their division.

                                                                    _Coach Mandi Selected as Team Alberta Head Coach to the British Age Group National Team (posted 10Sept2010)

                                                                    _Coach Mandi was selected as Team Alberta Head Coach to the British Age Group National Championships and took a team of 6 Alberta Swimmers to Sheffield, England to compete in the Championship. Congratulations Mandi! No Catalina swimmers were on the team this year.

                                                                    _Paul Demaere wins 2 gold at the Alberta Summer Games!

                                                                    _Paul Demaere took home 2 gold medals in the 400 and 800 free. Paul also competed hard in the 1500 free, missing gold by 4/100th, won a second silver in the 200 free, and a bronze in the 200 breast. Kaitlyn Hounsome won a bronze in the 800 free, and Kirstin Stayer won bronze in 400 I.M.

                                                                    _Six Catalina Swimmers achieve Alberta Provincial Youth Recognition (posted 10Sept2010)

                                                                    _Provincial Youth Recognition (Alberta Swimming Association)
                                                                    This program was set up to provide awards and recognition to age group swimmers who achieve qualifying standards based on Canadian and Provincial listings (TAG and TAS).  Standards are established by the Alberta Coaches Council with Swim Alberta Board of Directors approval, and revised the year following the Alberta Time Standards revisions.

                                                                    Alberta Top 25
                                                                    The standards for Top 1, Top 10 and Top 25 times are the average of first, tenth, and twenty fifth in the final TAG listings, short and long course, of the previous 10 years rounded to the nearest tenth.

                                                                    _First Catalina T-Shirt Times of the Season Set at the Poppy Meet (posted 20NOV2009)

                                                                    _Two Catalina swimmers, Rebecca Smith and David Errington, achieved their Swim Alberta Youth Recognition Times at the 21st Annual Silver Tide Poppy meet held November 14 and 15 in Edmonton. This program, (sometimes called “T-shirt Times” as t-shirts are awarded at the Provincial Championships for this achievement) is set up by Swim Alberta to provide awards and recognition to age group swimmers who achieve qualifying standards based on Canadian and Provincial listings (TAG and TAS). This is an annual award and the Time Standards can be found on the Swim Alberta website:

                                                                    Rebecca Smith made her first ever Time Standard for TOP 5 in Alberta (10 & under) in the 200IM with a time of 3:00.27, while David Errington achieved his first ever Canadian TOP 10 Time Standard with a time  of 1:00.50 in the 100 BR.

                                                                    _Catalina National group swimmer Alana Skodopole, had a phenomenal finish to her 2009 Cross Country Running season by placing first in a time of 12:05 at the ASAA (Alberta School Athletic Association) Provincial XC Championship. Alana was representing her Stettler school, W.E. Hay High School.
                                                                    In the same event, Catalina team mate, Rebecca Miller placed 19th out of the 119 Zone level qualified Junior Women. Her time was 13:28 in the 3000 m event that was run in Wetaskiwin on October 17. Becky was representing her school, Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.

                                                                    _The Final Issue of Alberta Top Five Age Group Rankings for the 2009 LC Season (posted 08SEP2009)

                                                                    Catalina swimmers posted excellent results in the final Swim Alberta issued Top Five Age Group Ranking. Because these rankings are based on the age of the swimmer on the date of issue (August 31, 2009) some strong Catalina swimmers do not show up here due to a late birthday but despite this, Catalina swimmers were ranked in the Top Five in Alberta in 21 events!

                                                                    Kirsten Trepanier, Emma MacDeramid, Breana Menzel, Halle Loyek, Brianna Bailey, Kaitlyn Little and David Errington all made the Alberta Top Five in their strong events but Nicole Cossey showed her depth of swimming ability by placing in the Top Five in a total five events despite aging up to the 17 yr old age group category late in the season! Way to go swimmers! Things are looking good for the 2009/2010 season!

                                                                    _Catalina swimmers Alana Skodopole and Rebecca Miller proved that some swimmers can run as well as swim with some pretty impressive results at the Central Alberta School’s Athletic Association X-country Running Zone Finals held at the Peace Hills Park on October 7!
                                                                    In theJunior Girls 3000 m event, Alana continued her winning season by placing first with her Catalina team mate, Rebecca following closely with a fourth place finish. Both have qualified to compete in the ASAA Provincials which will be held October 17.

                                                                    Congratulations to both swimmers and Good Luck from your Catalina Team Mates at XC Provincials on October 17!

                                                                    _Swim Alberta Youth Recognition Awards for 2009 LC Season (posted 08SEP2009)

                                                                    _Swim Alberta recently announced the final list of Youth Recognition Award Recipients for the 2009 LC Season. Three Catalina swimmers, Emma MacDermaid, Breana Menzel and David Errington, received their T-shirts to acknowledge this achievement at a presentation ceremony held at the Provincial Championships back in June. This program is set up by Swim Alberta to provide awards and recognition to age group swimmers who achieve qualifying standards based on Canadian and Provincial listings (TAG and TAS).
                                                                                                                              
                                                                    Emma MacDermaid and Breana Menzel received their T-shirts for meeting the Time Standards for TOP 5 in Alberta (10 & under), while David Errington achieved a Canadian TOP 25.                                                                     _Catalina Club Records Fall at Alberta LC Provincials! (posted 08SEP2009)

                                                                    _June saw six Catalina records fall at this year's Alberta LC Provincials.
                                                                    Breana Menzel broke all three distances records for 10 & under Breaststroke including one set by Andrea Kells in 2000! Breana also teamed up with fellow Catalina swimmers Kirsten Trepanier, Emma MacDermaid and Michelle Wu to set a new 10 and under 200 MR record. Not to be out done, the Catalina 13/14 yr old girls team of Sarah Broen, Brianna Bailey, Amy Andrew and Halle Loyek broke the club record in the 400 MR. On the boys side, David Errington lowered the record he had set earlier in the season in the 50 Breaststroke.
